2018-10-13 Bianchi Hybrid

This Bianchi Avenue hybrid has seen better days. We will give it a good check over and probably build it back up with new tires and seat and substantiable tuneup. A friend needs a bike and this will suit, once back in good shape.

This bike was suffering from numerous ailments, here is the list of problems and fixes:

• Both quick releases installed by somebody who does not know how a quick release works. Easily corrected and oil applied for good measure.
• Seat top missing. Replaced with used seat from spares, even a Bianchi.
• Both tires had rotted gumwalls, replacements from used stock applied.
• Rear shifter cable frayed and trash, brand new one applied.
• Front shifter seized, worked free with penetrant oil, existing cable reused.
• Front brake rusted up on the fittings. Replacement arms from used stock applied with new noodle and cable.
• Rear brake seized, freed up, lubricated and new cable applied.
• Pedals stiff, freed up with oil and working.
• Entire bottom of frame was crusted with mud, hosepipe and then oil all round.
• Chain is rusty crusty. We may clean it and reinstall or put on a new one.
• Kickstand angled to hit the wheel when raised, loosen, adjust, tighten, oil.

The satisfaction gained from making this bike work with minimal expenditure of money was significant. The expenditure of time was not minimal, but also worth it.
